Over the last couple of decades, skate culture has regrown and revitalized to unsuspected levels. As a matter of fact, skate culture has now become a part of mainstream fashion, reaching people of all demographics and from all walks of life. All of a sudden, skating-inspired styles are everywhere, even reaching high-fashion events in different parts of the world.

The skateboarder style has always been tough to pinpoint. A combination of practicality, protection, and anti-authoritarianism, the skateboarder style rides a thin line between the esoteric and the mundane. There are, however, some definite characteristics that can be attributed to the style.

Without a doubt, there are various characteristics that a good pair of skate pants should have. In this article, I will go over them in detail. Other than those, however, imagination and taste are the only factors that come into play when designing this type of clothing. In order to help you choose the right one for your particular style and needs, I will go over three of the best skate pants on the market. Toughness and Protection

Despite being made of pure cotton of the highest quality, the UNIONBAY Men’s Survivor Iv Relaxed Fit Cargo Pants are thick and rugged. As a result, they are incredibly protective, providing warmth while guarding your legs against external elements (such as the pavement). At the same time, however, these pants are soft and comfortable. Even though they are not very stretchy, their baggy (and yet precise) fit allows for a wide range of movement.

A Balance Between Style and Comfort

As I previously mentioned, these pants feature a relaxed fit that gives them a casual, unassuming look. This feature also provides a wide range of motion, allowing you to perform physics-defying movements with complete comfort. The cut of the pants also goes a long way towards that goal: Sitting just below the waist, the pants offer a nice hold without compromising the freedom you need to perform at the peak of your abilities.

Pros
  • Completely machine washable.
  • Classic and sleek style.
  • Tough and durable.
  • High-quality metal zip fly.
  • Includes belt.
  • Sits comfortably below the waist.
Cons
  • Pockets are tight and small.
  • Color may fade with washes.

Without a doubt, the cut, design, and materials of the Volcom Men’s Frickin Modern Fit Stretch Chino Pants make it a fantastic option for skating. However, these pants offer a lot more than that. Its modest and unpretentious style is not only youthful but also casually stylish, making this pair of pants a good option for daily wearing. The design of the pants is also complementary to a variety of different styles, including classic and modern skateboarder looks.

Abundant Details

Despite featuring a minimalistic, subdued and unassuming style, the Volcom Men’s Frickin Modern Fit Stretch Chino Pants are very distinctive. Balancing silhouette and stretch, the pants give out a definite vibe that spells out relaxation and dynamism at the same time. The Best Skate Pants - STUNNING Real Comparison 2021The Best Skate Pants - STUNNING Real Comparison 2021Some skateboarders care about nothing more than their performance on the skatepark. If that is the case with you, the Southpole Men’s Active Basic Jogger Fleece Pants may be a product worth looking into. Made of pure polyester of the highest quality, these pants are comfortable, warm, and stretchy at the same time. They feature a very loose fit overall. However, they provide elastic secureness everywhere that it’s needed, including the waist and the ankles.

As a result, the pants give you a full range of motion without creating problems by slipping or getting caught on different objects. The product’s adjustable waistband helps you adapt its fit to your body type with great ease.

Stylsh and Colorful

The Southpole Men’s Active Basic Jogger Fleece Pants come in 32 different colors, ranging from the more subdued black, white, and grey to a variety of bright, bold options. The Best Skate Pants On the Market – A Buyer’s Guide

The next time you are in the market for a fresh pair of skate pants, it’s important that you take your time in order to choose the right one. Without a doubt, using the following information will help you make a more informed decision.

Types of Skate Pants

There is not a single type of skate pants. In fact, most types of pants that are used by skaters were not specifically designed for the sport. Instead, they were adopted by skaters due to having a variety of useful and convenient features. In that sense, it can be said that skate pants are determined by the reality of the sport first and foremost. That does not mean, though, that fashion and style play no part.

Generally speaking, skate pants should be comfortable, flexible, and unrestrictive. Furthermore, they should be at least somewhat protective, offering a certain level of resistance to strain, rip, and tear. If it checks those boxes, basically any kind of pants can be skate pants. However, there are three types of pants that skaters all over the world seem to favor above the rest: skinny jeans, cargo trousers, and jogging pants. Let’s go over them:

Skinny Jeans

At first sight, skinny jeans may seem like a poor choice for skating. After all, they are remarkably tight around the knees, calves, and ankles. However, skinny jeans are, to a certain extent, part of the classic, old-school skater uniform.

Originally worn by country and rock and roll musicians in the 1960s, skinny jeans are more embedded in popular culture than you may imagine. It wasn’t until the 90s, however, that they started becoming associated with skaters and skate culture. As the majority of mainstream society began adopting baggier, looser forms of clothing, skaters, always in the side of counter-culture, went the opposite way. Their use of skinny jeans may as well have initiated as a way of antagonizing mainstream society. However, it quickly became a fashion and a cultural statement of its own.

Without a doubt, one of the best things about skinny jeans for skaters is that they are tough and durable. As you can imagine, skating brings about a rather displeasing side-effect: falling on the concrete rather often. Since most of those falls will have the lower side of your body take the brunt of the impact, it only makes sense that you wear pants made of a tough material that can resist scrapes and hits without being ripped apart. Luckily, skinny jeans tend to be made of robust denim, often combined with additional materials for extra-durability.

In terms of fit and comfort, skinny jeans may not be the most obvious option. Without a doubt, their design is a unique one. It is also one that may take some time to get used to. After a brief period of adjustment, however, most skaters will be able to overcome this issue, even to the point of adapting the discomfort and making it a part of their skateboarding game. With time, skaters who favor skinny jeans will get so used to the style that wearing any other type of skate pants will feel wrong from both a practical and a style-conscious point of view.

Cargo Trousers

As the name implies, cargo trousers were historically worn by blue-collared workers, often members of the cargo industry. These workers appreciated some of the same things that skaters appreciate now, albeit on a somewhat different capacity: To them, comfort, protection, and durability were the most important factors, with style coming in last.

However, in the 1990s, iconic brands like Dickies and Carhartt were quick to pick up the fact that a new cultural movement for young people all over the country was starting to adapt and appropriate many of the staples of blue-collared fashion. Of course, this included cargo trousers. It was not long before they modified the style to be more compatible with youth movements, skaters in particular.cargo trousers for skaters

Generally speaking, modern cargo trousers for skaters aim at maintaining a balance between functionality and style. Of course, they maintain the bagginess and looseness that made the original cargo pants so attractive to skaters when the style just became a thing. However, most modern models of cargo trousers attempt to provide a silhouette that is both dynamic and sleek. After all, no skater wants to look like he’s wearing a bag over his legs.

Jogging Pants

Although their use is not as widespread as the use of cargo and skinny jeans, jogging pants have become a staple among newer skaters over the past few years. Without a shadow of a doubt, this type of pants favors comfort, practicality, and flexibility above everything else.

Typically, jogging pants for skate are made of polyester or other materials that are similarly stretchy and adaptable. With certainty, jogging pants are the softest and baggiest type of skate pants out there. Their loose and airy design tends to be a great fit for performing difficult maneuvers that require great amounts of stretching and highly-stylized movements.

In order to keep themselves where they ought to be, jogging pants often feature an elastic waistband that can be easily adjusted at any given time. Unlike most jogging pants, skate jogging pants don’t usually have a wide boot. As you can imagine, that could prove terribly impractical and even dangerous when skating. Instead, jogging pants for skaters tend to have a fitted ankle. More often than not, this fitted ankle also features some level of stretchiness provided by small elastic waistbands. In some models, these ankle waistbands feature adjustment capabilities. However, that is not often the case.

How to Choose the Right Pair of Skate Pants

No matter the type of skate pants you are going for, there are certain general considerations that you should take into account. They are the following:

Avoid Restrictiveness

As you already know, skateboarding is all about dynamic and explosive movements. For that reason, choosing a pair of pants that limits the abruptness and immediacy of your movements can be a huge mistake. It can even be dangerous: A sudden restriction of your movements will often cause you to fall, which, in turn, can cause injuries.

Pants that are both too tight and too baggy can cause problems by restricting your movements. Tight pants can prevent you from stretching your legs as well as you could. As you can imagine, limiting your movement in such a way can absolutely hinder your performance.

On the other hand, pants that are too baggy can become a kind of obstacle when skating. The sheer amount of unnecessary material can greatly limit your movements. As a matter of fact, too much material can easily get caught on other objects, potentially causing accidents and mistakes.

Look for the Right Fit

Generally speaking, you should always look for a balance between comfort and fit. Often, skateboarders wear pants that are not as fitting as they could be. The reasoning behind this seems to be that baggy and loose-fitting pants are comfortable, and therefore the fit is not as important as with regular pants for everyday life. Nothing could be further from the truth, however.

In reality, the fit of your skate pants is incredibly important for both functionality and style-related reasons. Of course, extreme styles (either very tight or very loose) are often favored due to the shock value they provide. In a way, wearing an ill-fitting pair of skate pants can be seen as a fashion statement of sorts. However, when it comes to actually skating, a pair of pants that fits your body type nicely is always the best way to go.pants with sunset

Mind the Design

While it does not and it will not affect your performance, the decoration and style of your skate pants are also something to be aware of. After all, everyone wants to look their best while doing anything outdoors, including participating in extreme sports.

That does not mean, however, that you should necessarily go for the flashiest or trendiest skate pants design you can get your hands on. Quite to the contrary: Skate clothing is characterized by its subdued and understated looks. Often, this type of clothing features single colors and minimalistic designs. In fact, more often than not, skate clothing features a simple color scheme and a single brand logo in the front or the back.

In Conclusion

With everything on the table, it’s easy to see where the popularity of these three products come from. Practical, ergonomic, comfortable, and stylish, each of them can help you look your best while simultaneously improving your skating game. Now, it’s up to you to choose the perfect one for your needs. Hopefully, the information I presented to you in this article will help you do just that.

I would normally wear shorts because I find it hard selecting pants that are very comfortable for the job. But when I do go for pants, I want something that is breathable and does not get in the way. This will normally be a. pair of slouch pants or something close in nature.

Nice piece!! So thrilled to see this. Last summer my nephew had a skating accident and was bruised badly. I’m sure his pants contributed to that. Well, I guess I have some shopping to do. Thanks.
